The Job: The primary focus of the Human Resources Generalist role includes supporting a wide range of HR functions and daily workflow of HR initiatives. This role will ensure MSI is building a high-performance, diverse organization and inclusive culture through developing training resources, building and maintaining programs, and proactively identifying methods to engage within a continuously evolving and dynamic workforce.
Responsibilities
- Proactively identify employee development resources and develop programs to meet the needs of the dynamic and diverse workforce.
- Coordinate and conduct new employee orientations, ensuring new employees are properly introduced to the Museum's culture and policy.
- Facilitate training and development initiatives in collaboration with HR leadership.
- Organize quarterly check-ins and annual employee performance reviews for the Museum.
- Provide support to employees in areas such as: goal setting, talent acquisition and recruitment, organizational design, benefits, and compensation in collaboration with members of the HR team.
- Promote HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace.
- Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics to aide in identifying needs within the business with an eye toward developing possible solutions.
- Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions and improvement and exit strategies, and unemployment process.
- Analyze and provide guidance and support to supervisors and managers on methods and approaches to resolve employee issues.
- Support the Museum's DEAI initiatives, serving as a contributor and proactive agent in the development and delivery of inclusion programs including cultural competency to collaborate and coordinate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Enhance employee job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly in all HR areas.
- Ensure compliance with labor regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated HR Generalist experience. Experience working in a nonprofit or cultural institution is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree is a plus. HR certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM CP/SCP) preferred.
- Strong knowledge and ability to research and apply broad range of HR practices and technologies.
- Proficient computer skills and MS Office Suite capabilities including Word and Excel required.
- ADP Workforce experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) as well as build relationships and exceptional trust with employees at all levels.
- Positive and goal-oriented attitude with a customer service mindset.
- Prior experience in labor relations and/or union negotiations is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or in a team environment.
- Direct experience working in all HR areas (L&D, employee relations, recruitment, benefits, organizational design, and professional development).
- Must be a team player and able to work across multiple functions and disciplines, possessing strong collaboration skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information and ensure that the Museum operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Aptitude for problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Desire to work as a team with a results-driven approach.
- Language:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures, etc.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
- Mathematical:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, turnover and retention rates, etc.
- Reasoning:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Physical:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
