Ph.D., DDS, DVM, JD, MD or equivalent is required.

It is essential to have prior experience with tropical root data, data extraction from papers in the literature, experience mentoring undergraduates, a firm grasp of the R programming language, and knowledge of the FATES model.

This position involves performing a meta-analysis and data extraction of literature related to tropical root stocks, traits, and dynamics. The postdoc will supervise a team of undergraduate students to extract the data, and then perform quality checks and data curation (25% of time). The data will be deposited in the FRED database (25% of time). The postdoc will write one paper that analyses the data, using structural equation modeling and meta-analytical techniques (35% of time). The postdoc will be a liason with the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and work with them to update tropical root representation in the FATES model (10% of time). The postdoc will be required to attend PI meetings (5% of time).

The Powers lab is interested in how land-use changes like secondary forest regeneration and climate change like increased frequency of drought affect seasonally dry tropical forest. We use a variety of tools including long-term observations, large-scale experiments, and meta-analysis and we collaborate with simulation modelers.
