Position Summary

Workforce Development Specialist

Salary commenstrate with education and experience according to Salary Schedule E3/3.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, the Director of Workforce Development, Assistant Dean of Instruction, Dean of Instruction, Dean of Students, the President, and Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, responsibilities will include the following:
  • The Workforce Development Specialist will perform and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Workforce Development Department as directed by the Director of Workforce Development,
  • Assist with writing, developing, and submitting grant applications for the WFD Department,
  • Reconcile departmental budgets and grants monthly utilizing Excel and Banner system with WFD Director,
  • Maintain a running calculation of each grant expenditures including salaries, and purchase orders,
  • Complete budget amendments for grants(s) as needed,
  • Assist with input of non-credit classes through Elevate system,
  • Assist with Manufacturing Skills MSSC registrations and assessments,
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing office communications including telephone, email, take and relay messages, respond as needed to office callers and walk-ins in a professional manner,
  • Maintain office electronic and cloud-based filing systems, maintaining hard copy filing system (SharePoint),
  • Complete travel requests, purchase orders, and check requests, as needed,
  • Maintain office supplies,
  • Assists with creating and developing newsletters and brochures for the entire Office of Workforce Development,
  • Coordinate, plan, organize, market, recruit, and manage ALL Workforce Development Projects, Classes, and Events,
  • Maintain businesses and industries training schedules and coordinate calendar events,
  • Monitors and manages online business and industry training through the WCCS online platform (CANVAS),
  • Coordinate training courses with local businesses and industries offered through the Innovation Center for “Skills for Success” participants,
  • Serves on college committees as assigned,
  • Work well with others and show respect to all college constituents,
  • Perform any assigned duties as directed by the Director of Workforce Development, Associate Dean of Instruction, Dean of Instruction, Dean of Business and Finance, Dean of Students, and the President of the College and his/her designee.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree in Office Administration, CIS, or Business Administration from a regionally accredited institution,
  • Excellent customer service skills,
  • Strong written and verbal skills,
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team member,
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively as well as meet deadlines,
  • Ability to use good judgment and make sound decisions,
  • Excellent office management skills, including computer literacy with the ability to work in a Windows-based environment using various software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Banner),
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of duties and responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
  • An understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the two-year college,
  • Possesses a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity,
  • Two years’ experience working with the Alabama Community College System.
