Position Description:
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of custodial and janitorial duties in college buildings and facilities; and to perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
Locks, unlocks, and secures classrooms, buildings, and gates; sets and disarms security alarms
Checks all buildings having usage the prior evening and corrects any minor problems as needed
Assists in maintaining landscaping and athletic fields
Performs basic irrigation system maintenance
Notifies appropriate maintenance staff about any building needs
Cleans restrooms and stocks paper and other supplies
Participates in seasonal custodial projects
Maintains custodial supply inventory assists in the management of the storage area, notifies appropriate administrator of supply needs
Assists in the distribution of packages and freight to appropriate offices
Supervises student workers conducting custodial and grounds work
Oversees work of court-ordered community service workers
Empties wastebaskets and collects trash to maintain campus appearance
Patrols parking area and enforces regulations, issues warnings and writes citations
On-site contact employee for special events and extra activities
Under direction, liaison for outside agencies using the campus facilities, assists in logistics of campus events
Assist in game preparation, per administrator direction
Set-up facilities for football and soccer
Coordinating lining and marking of fields
Supervise and coordinate Football Tailgate Party
Supervise placement of extra seating
Supervise placement of rope fencing
Coordinate sound systems
Maintain venue appearance
Assist in the set-up of the concessions
Supervise student help assisting with events
Secure and lock all facilities after event
Provides Maintenance Department contact with Camps and Clinics events
Addresses building maintenance needs and/or notifies appropriate maintenance staff about building needs
Assists in basic landscaping maintenance and fundamental building maintenance; weed eat, mow, operate hand and power tools
Provides additional safety and security functions
Assists with snow removal
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
General housekeeping practices and procedures
Proper use of housekeeping equipment
Proper use of ground keeping equipment
Cleaning compounds and supplies
Safe working practices and precautions for working with cleaning compounds and cleaning up bodily fluid spills
Campus parking policies
Basic grounds keeping care and maintenance techniques
Skill in:
Using cleaning products and chemicals for floor care and maintenance
Selecting and using appropriate tools and equipment for various custodial duties
Operating grounds keeping/lawn maintenance equipment
Applying cleaners and disinfectants appropriately
Using gloves and other protective equipment for personal safety
Monitoring student employment activities
Working cooperatively with various college departments
Physical Characteristics
Working in exposure to cleaning solutions, disinfectants, chemicals, bacteria, and bodily fluids
Lifting, pushing and pulling equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
Manual dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and manipulate objects
Walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and climbing stairs
Speech and hearing to give and receive instructions and information
Work is performed both indoors, and outside in inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be willing to work second shift and carry a beeper during working hours
Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record
Desirable Characteristics:
Completion of sufficient formal and/or informal education to ensure successful job performance
Six months of custodial experience
Commercial/ Athletic grounds maintenance experience
Community college experience is preferred
Class A driver’s license
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
