Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of History at the University of Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Modern East Asia, focusing on 20th-century China, Japan, and/or the Japanese Empire. We especially welcome applicants whose work is transnational, transregional, or global in its approach. Teaching responsibilities will include the ability to teach a Modern East Asian History survey course as well as specialized courses drawn from the candidate’s geographic and thematic areas of expertise.
The starting date of this position is August 2023, contingent upon the availability of funds. The application should include a cover letter describing research and teaching interests; a curriculum vitae; a sample of scholarly research (not longer than 50 pages); and three names and email addresses for referees. Requests will go to referees upon submission of the application. For best consideration, applications should be submitted by November 21, 2022.
