OUTSTANDING OPPORTUNITY

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), United Way of Spokane County

United Way of Spokane County is currently searching for a CEO. The CEO is the leader of the organization, establishing a vision for Community Impact that is achieved through the efforts of a diverse team of high-performing leaders, staff and volunteers alike. The CEO leverages the power of relationships and networks, and works across private, public and corporate sectors to improve conditions in the community. S/he possesses a high level of business and management skills and is effective at generating resources and financial support for the organization. The CEO is dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good – creating, resourcing, scaling and leveraging strategies for broad investment and impact. The CEO understands the value of the United Way brand and fosters the importance of its role in the community. S/he is responsible for building trust in United Way and its relevance in the community. The CEO will oversee the internal operations of the United Way of Spokane County staff, developing and supporting staff in their daily responsibilities.

Successfully navigates and recognizes the complex nature of the human service delivery system and can connect its importance to the many constituencies that influence and support this system.

EXPERIENCE/POSITION REQUIREMENTS

As an ideal candidate, you will have a:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the leadership and management of an organization with experience in implementing complex resource development strategies.
  • Although it is not a requirement that the CEO candidate has worked within the nonprofit sector, s/he must have an understanding of how nonprofits operate and a passion for their role in a community.
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited school is preferred, however relevant work experience may be substituted if proven to demonstrate a significant ability to perform at an executive level.
  • A working knowledge and demonstrated development of solutions based on pertinent United Way ALICE measures is preferred.
  • Demonstrated and proven history of a dedicated commitment to community, expertise on issues relevant to the organization, and the ability to command the confidence and respect of stakeholders.
  • You will have a demonstrated track record of building collaboration around common goals with the community at large, and developing partnerships across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public and corporate environments.
  • As CEO, you must have experience in developing, leading and managing highly effective teams including experience in building revenue and operational support.
  • You will have experience in navigating work that requires a high level of intelligence, intellectual curiosity, demonstrating an ability to explore new ideas and innovative approaches to solving problems.
  • As CEO, you must have unquestioned integrity, a long-term perspective, a strong sense of accountability, well developed relationship building skills, practical ability to get things done, wisdom and good judgment combined with an emotional competent approach to management that fosters innovation.
  • You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be engaged in this work, and have strong interpersonal savvy.
