Job Summary
The Division of Continuing Education is currently seeking instructors for our Adult Vocational Training Programs. This posting is for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) training instructors only.

Rate of pay: $35 to $50 per hour with no more than 19 hours a week.
Classes may be on-campus, online, or hybrid.

Responsibilities & Duties
The instructor is responsible for:
  • ensuring compliance with commission rules and guidelines;
  • preparing, maintaining, and submitting the reports of training within the timeframe specified by the Training Coordinator;
  • the administration and conduct of course(s) taught;
  • at a minimum, providing a complete lesson plan, clear learning objectives, instructor biography, approved class roster and original sign-in sheet, and course evaluation to the training coordinator for the training file;
  • enforcing all attendance and other standards set by the commission or the training advisory board;
  • maintaining the discipline and demeanor of each student during class;
  • distributing or presenting learning objectives to all students at the beginning of each course;
  • ensuring that all learning objects are taught; and
  • ensuring examinations are proctored or supervised to have fair, honest results.

Required Education
TCOLE Instructor Certification required
Must hold a valid TCOLE instructor license, certificate, or be designated, in writing, as a subject matter expert in the course by the training coordinator.

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Flexible, strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to operate computers and other relevant technology, such as digital signatures.
  • Must be familiar with most Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Have current knowledge of the relevant course offering.
  • Ability to deliver course outcomes and content through a variety of teaching/learning styles to include online or hybrid delivery methods.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

 
Required Experience
Must provide instructor biography indicating subject matter expertise and teaching experience. Can be included with Resume or Cover letter.

Preferred Experience
formal teaching experience, 3+ years of experience in the field preferred

Subject to criminal background check. Employees must reside in Texas or Oklahoma. Certification, Cover Letter and Resume are required in addition to application. Salary is $35-50 / hourly, with no more than 19 hours a week. Salary will be dependent on TCOLE certifications.
