About Sandy Hook Promise
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings,
and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Position Summary
Sandy Hook Promise is seeking a Director of Education Marketing & Communications to help develop, refine, and execute strategies that will fuel the growth of our suite of “Know the Signs” programs to the education sector. Our goal is to scale our programs to reach 20% of school-age youth by 2028.

This position will play a key role in identifying and marketing to education decision makers who determine what programs to implement to keep their students safe, and then engage them with valuable tools and resources that promote social and emotional learning (SEL).

With the proven ability to think strategically about audience-centric messaging and distribution that catalyzes measurable action and strengthens the SHP brand, the Director will help ensure that SHP is viewed as a trusted resource and encourage educators to engage with our suite of programs.

The primary responsibilities include researching, developing, and executing strategic marketing and communications plans that influence educators (superintendents, principals, guidance counselors, safety directors, etc.) to implement Sandy Hook Promise’s programming and grow our movement.

The ideal candidate is experienced in crafting and implementing strong marketing and communication plans with strategies that deliver measurable results within the education sector. These will lean heavily on digital marketing tactics while thinking through the entire digital user journey, from awareness to interest to conversion. This person will need to be a skilled project manager adept at working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team, while being comfortable juggling multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. They are driven, detail-oriented, and creative, solutions-focused thinkers with exceptional interpersonal skills. Must be adaptable, always seeking ways to increase efficiency in managing workflow and team expectations, and a stickler for tracking against KPIs and proving ROI.

The role reports to the Associate Vice President, Digital Marketing and will also work closely across the entire marketing organization while also strategizing with the Business Development team responsible for converting leads into program partners. Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and refine program messaging and positioning to develop and execute effective marketing plans informed by data analytics.
  • Generate leads within the educator sector (superintendents, principals, guidance counselors, etc.) to enable SHP’s Business Development team to build relationships.
  • Understand and optimize the customer journey and K12 buyer personas to optimize segment-based positioning and messaging and oversee the online and offline journeys.
    • Strategize and build journeys and conversion funnels and identify paid advertising opportunities and education partnerships
    • Develop and monitor KPIs and dashboards to optimize performance
  • Manage development of compelling promotional assets to help educators understand how SHP's research-informed programs can meet SEL requirements, strengthen school communities, and empower youth and adults to prevent violence and suicide leveraging:
  • data from longitudinal studies on KTS program effectiveness
  • trends in education, school safety, and youth mental health
  • data on K-12 environment, culture, violence, and governance etc.
  • Identify K-12 educator conferences and seminars where SHP should be visible and work with Associate Director, Events to ensure SHP’s brand and offerings are well represented.
  • Partner and collaborate cross functionally with the following teams:
    • Communications to develop messaging, positive media coverage, amplify thought leadership in the SEL/school safety space, and cross-promotional partnerships
    • Business Partnerships to move leads generated into partnership meetings
    • Research and Evaluation to translate SHP insights into communications to K-12
    • Technology to build and monitor dashboards
  • Partner with business development leadership to support strategic initiatives, driving teams’ understanding and use of our research, especially as it connects to narratives for prospective school / client partners and/or philanthropic partners.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape in social-emotional learning and school safety spaces to guide SHP’s positioning and unique selling proposition for educators.
  • Travel to meet with key stakeholders. (up to 25% travel)

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required.
  • 7+ years of experience in a B2B or Product Marketing role; K-12 Education marketing experience is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the education sector, key conferences and organizations advancing SEL.
  • Demonstrated ability to co-create effective marketing and communication strategies in collaboration with others and bring those strategies to life, including plans to generate and nurture leads through the onboarding” cycle.????
  • Proficient at using Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Pardot and project management platforms (ex. Monday.com).
  • Ability to analyze results to inform strategies, assess ROI and make modifications as needed
  • Proven organizational, project and time-management skills. Must be able to coordinate many projects concurrently and prioritize with minimal guidance.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a commitment to readability and accessibility. Meticulous attention to detail required.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage concurrent assignments under tight deadlines. Adept at working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and excel in a high-performance culture.
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultures and communities; demonstrated ability to work well with diverse populations; can effectively bring in allies with cultural competence.
  • Resourceful, critical thinker who thrives at problem-solving on a nimble, goal-oriented team.

Benefits and Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $93,000-$103,000. (SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
