Desk Associate

Job Description

DESK ASSOCIATE, Division of Student Life (DSL)-Housing and Residential Services (HRS), to provide administrative and operational support for a graduate residence.  Will work closely with the housing operations managers and Housing Unit-12 staff to provide customer-oriented services, including check-ins and check-outs, recordkeeping, mail and package handling, and enforcing guest/visitor policies for residents and live-in staff; provide break officer support for staff breaks and meals; and cover desk shifts for weekly desk staff to support vacations, sick time, and emergencies.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; excellent organizational, problem-solving, customer service, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; a desire to work in a collaborative environment; ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and work independently in a fast-paced environment; experience using web-based programs, including e-mail and Microsoft Office; and ability to work in a diverse community and treat all residents, guests, and staff with respect regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, abilities or disabilities, or position or rank within the department.  PREFERRED:  bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on customer service or operations and customer service or office experience.  Job #24077

Work conditions:  moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, frequently moving or remaining stationary for extended periods of time, and ascending and descending stairs

Hourly rate: $25.00

This is a full-time position that is designated as essential personnel in accordance with the MIT Policy on Emergency Closing or Early Release. During emergencies, employees in this title are excused from their regularly scheduled work only with the specific authorization of their supervisors, regardless of any public announcement that the Institute is closed.

Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.
