Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET), a campus of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), seeks to hire a Business Manager to support scientists engaged in cutting edge environmental research. IMET, is located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor at the Rita Rossi Colwell Center, 701 E Pratt Street Baltimore, MD 21202.

This position will provide financial services which include account reconciliation, budget monitoring, procurement, travel services support and various compliance monitoring in accordance with federal and state regulations as well as University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences policies and procedures.

The department seeks a positive, collaborative, self-motivated and very organized person who can work productively and cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals.

The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Reconcile financial transactions regularly to ensure financial compliance per federal, state and university policies are applied.
  • Process a wide range of procurement requests in a timely manner.
  • Manage salary funding source changes, making sure people are paid from correct accounts at the correct level of effort.
  • Advise and assist faculty and GRAs with travel arrangements.
  • Invoice vendors for lab services in a timely manner and track payments received.
  • Assist the Assistant Director and faculty with preparation of various financial reports requested by sponsoring institutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or related fields. Three years of experience in fiscal management, preferably in higher education.

This position is located at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET), a campus of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) in Baltimore, MD.

This position offers hybrid work schedule. This is an exempt, regular position that includes a competitive benefits package, including State of Maryland health benefit and retirement programs, along with tuition remission. This position also offers a generous paid time off package (22 days-annual leave, 15-days-sick leave, 3 days-personal leave, as well as 15 paid holidays.
