Each Employer Engagement Specialist has a designated portfolio of industry-specific employers (e.g. financial services, technology, engineering, data analytics, government, non-profits, media, and much more).

The Meruelo Family Center for Career Development prepares students for lifelong career readiness through innovative and tailored programs, services, and strategic partnerships. Strategic partnerships extend beyond Notre Dame’s campus through the cultivation of relationships with employers and alumni to advance student opportunities into meaningful internships and full-time positions. The Center’s Employer Engagement Team is charged with advancing these relationships.

The Employer Engagement Specialist (“Specialist”) of the Meruelo Family Center for Career Development is responsible for cultivating relationships with a broad range of companies and organizations in a portfolio of designated industries with the ultimate goal of advancing recruitment of Notre Dame undergraduate and graduate students into top tier internships and full-time employment. The Specialist will be charged with strategically advancing relationships through collaborative efforts involving partners within University Relations (including, but not limited to Corporate Relations, Development, and the ND Alumni Association), the Academy (faculty and administrators), and our vast Notre Dame alumni and parent community.

The Specialist is regarded as a content knowledge expert on Notre Dame’s academic programs and clearly articulates Notre Dame’s brand and student demographics to advance the hiring of undergraduate and graduate students from all fields of study. The Specialist will facilitate and implement opportunities for employers to network with students both on and off campus. This role also includes being present at evening information sessions and networking events for designated industries.

The Specialist collaborates across all functions of the Career Development team to provide a world-class career development program to benefit all undergraduate and graduate students.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • STEWARDSHIP OF EXISTING EMPLOYERS: Manage relationships of employers with established recruiting relationships at the University to deepen existing recruiting efforts and ensure an unsurpassed recruiting experience. Communicate on a strategic and frequent basis to assess existing recruiting priorities and results and offer creative ways to advance recruiting on and off campus. Identify opportunities to increase hiring of graduate and undergraduate students with top tier employers in new job functions. Serve as a centralized resource for all recruiting needs for a portfolio of top tier employers, including: reviewing and approving job postings and events, coordinating on-campus recruiting, securing participation in career fairs and other networking events, and overall brand management. Attend and support on-campus recruiting events hosted by employers.

  • ON-CAMPUS PROGRAM SUPPORT: Collaborate with employers, Career Development staff and other colleagues on campus to educate students about industries, career opportunities, and preparation requirements.

  • COLLABORATION, REPORTING, AND COMMUNICATION: Track all interactions and progress with employer engagement efforts and prepare reports. Meet regularly with faculty and University partners to effectively communicate industry, employer, and recruiting trends of existing and prospective employers. Serve as a centralized resource for campus partners to engage employers in University efforts (classroom visits, experiential projects, participation in student club events, etc.).

  • OFF-CAMPUS AND VIRTUAL PROGRAM COORDINATION: Collaborate with employers and alumni to develop, implement, and attend opportunities for students to engage on-site with organizations across the country through treks (site visits), special programs, and networking events.

  • SPECIAL PROJECTS AND OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Lead special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Career Development Leadership Team to ensure the success of the Center, the University, students, and other stakeholders. Represent the Center for Career Development across campus and in professional associations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (new graduates welcome).
  • Understanding of the principles of sales or other relationship-driven work
  • Knowledge of employers and industries
  • Knowledge of recruiting process for internships and full-time positions
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships
  • Ability to think organizationally, conceptually, and strategically
  • Ability to manage projects and relationships simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Serve as a team player with a positive attitude across multiple departments with distinct responsibilities
