SUMMARY
The Director of Student Engagement provides vision and creative leadership for the Office of Student Engagement. The Office of Student Engagement, in partnership with our students, faculty, staff, and the larger Wyandotte and Leavenworth Country communities, is committed to developing positive, inclusive student opportunities and experiences that contribute to an extraordinary Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) education.

The individual appreciates shared governance and working in a diverse environment. This position reports to the Dean of Student Services and is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management's (SAEM) leadership team and ensures that student engagement programs and activities aligns with the College's overall strategic priorities and goals.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Ability to use and teach customer service skills to ensure that students and customers are happy and In collaboration with student and College leaders across KCKCC, responsible for assessing student needs and developing innovative student-centered programs, activities, and events that enhances the educational experiences of KCKCC students.
  • Lead and develop the Office of Student Engagement's daily operations. This includes but is not limited to directing and supervising the student lounge, Basic Needs Center, the Fringe Benefits of Education program, management of assigned budgets, management of technology resources, and developing of student engagement policies and procedures to ensure compliance and appropriate risk management practices.
  • Responsible for the effective selection, hiring, training, and supervision of Student Engagement staff.
  • Serve as the advisor for the KCKCC Student Senate, including officers, the executive committee, and the senate in all aspects of program selection, organizational and leadership development.
  • In collaboration with student leaders and College staff and faculty, responsible for the development of a robust selection of student clubs and organizations that focus on supporting the needs and interests of all students at KCKCC.
  • Develop a robust emerging leaders' program to complement classroom and student life experiences in the context of personal, ethical, and organizational development; communication; teamwork; knowledge of leadership theory and change theory; multicultural competencies; and accountability.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Student Services, responsible for taking an active role in the development, assessment, and administration of the College's student engagement platform.
  • As assigned, participate in committees, workgroups, and task forces that support College priorities and goals.
  • Keep abreast of national trends by attending workshops, and conferences, maintaining appropriate memberships, and other professional development opportunities.
  • As assigned, liaison with national, regional, state, and local organizations promoting best strategies to the College community.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services and Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management in alignment with College and SAEM strategic priorities and goals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the role of student engagement programs and services, and compliance at the community college level.
  • Demonstrates core practice skills such as active listening, open-ended questions, summarizing, and reframing.
  • Creates a welcoming and trusting environment that engages students, placing the student's unique experiences at the center of the work.
  • Fosters agency through developmental advising practices that encourage self-efficacy, self-determination, self-advocacy, and accountability.
  • Have a demonstrated in-depth knowledge of a diverse and broad range of student engagement programs, services, resources, and relevant guidelines to ensure student access to services.
  • The capacity to represent the College at local agencies/organizations activities and group meetings.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices that promote social justice and equity.
  • High energy, self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of students, faculty, and staff in the organization.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, student development, social work, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of relevant student engagement, activities, or related experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
  • Demonstrated record of success in creating experiences for student engagement and belonging.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and/or managing a campus engagement platform.
  • Experience working within a community or two-year college setting.
  • Experience within a higher education institution working with a student population with a highly diverse, first-generation, and financially fragile population.
  • Demonstrated experience working with/advising student organizations and leading student leadership programming.
  • Multilingual writing and speaking proficiency.

WORK SCHEDULE
Assigned 40-hour work week during Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
