Overview

The Program Manager for Health and Wellness programs in the Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrated Therapies (Zakim) will oversee the development, implementation and assessment of a new longitudinal health and wellness coaching program in the Zakim Center, as well as participate in on-going Healthy Living programing. The Program Manager will work closely with Zakim leadership in program development, and with experts in nutrition, physical activity, mindfulness, and integrative medicine in developing and managing new Zakim programming. The Program Manager will also conduct individual and group sessions in clinical and research settings, where health and wellness therapies are used to address the physical, nutritional and wellness needs of patients.

This position’s work location is hybrid with two or three days per week remote. The selected candidate may only work remote days from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).  

Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees longitudinal healthy living
  • Works closely with other health coaches and healthy living program staff to create comprehensive wellness programming for patients and caregivers.
  • Creates and adapts nutrition, exercise and wellness interventions based on the age-specific and culturally-specific needs of the patient. Provide interventions in the most cost-effective and beneficial manner.
  • Participates in research through protocol development, health coaching, and/or development of assessment schedules.
  • Conducts one on one sessions with patients, delivery evidence-based lifestyle interventions based on patients individual needs.
  • Conducts health and wellness group programs
  • Ensures a safe environment and maintains equipment and supplies in a clean, operable and safe manner.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings and attends conferences as directed.
  • Follows up with clinical care team as needed.
  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and infection control procedures.
  • May supervise students and interns

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position may supervise other health coaches, students and interns

PATIENT CONTACT:

  • Yes, through patient consultations and programming.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in the field of nutrition, health sciences, psychology, or exercise physiology. Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
  • 5 years of counseling/coaching experience and/or training in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy required.
  • Prior experience in building and assessing programming in exercise, weight management, or nutrition preferred.
  • Experience with motivational interviewing and/or coaching experience preferred. Experience with virtual and digital program development a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrates understanding of special needs and behaviors of age groups of the population served.
  • Must possess a basic understanding of health care clinical operations.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and teaching.
  • Ability to establish rapport with patients and families from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with Zakim Center Staff as well as all other oncology interdisciplinary team members.
  • Must have expert knowledge in a lifestyle intervention related field-nutrition, exercise, PT, OT, or behavioral psychology.
  • Must possess highly effective interpersonal and written communication skills, as an individual and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to organize work, complete tasks efficiently and independently with attention to detail, meet deadlines for multiple tasks and inquiries.
  • Must have expert knowledge in a lifestyle intervention related field-nutrition, exercise, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or behavioral psychology.
  • Research and/or oncology experience preferred.
