Job Purpose: The position plays a critical role in leading the onboarding, development, and continuous improvement of adjunct faculty. This role is pivotal in ensuring that adjunct faculty are equipped to deliver high-quality, competency-based education that meets the evolving needs of Calbright students.

Location: Remote, various locations throughout California

Salary Range: The beginning salary range for this position is Range M-20,

(Steps 1-3) $151,714.85 - $167,293.97.

Position Overview

 


The Director for the Adjunct Academy, reports directly to the VP of Learning and Instruction, fosters and supports consistent, quality, and engaging instruction delivered by online adjunct faculty. The Director will play a critical role in leading the onboarding, development, and continuous improvement of adjunct faculty. This role is pivotal in ensuring that adjunct faculty are equipped to deliver high-quality, competency-based education that meets the evolving needs of Calbright students. The Director will collaborate closely with the Dean of Learning Innovation, and Department Chairs to foster excellence in online teaching and learning practices.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

 


The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed within the scope of work.


 

  • Leadership and Vision: In collaboration with the VP, of Learning and Instruction, provide strategic leadership for the Adjunct Academy, aligning professional development initiatives with the institution's mission.
  • Professional Development and Management: Identify, implement, and assess comprehensive professional development programs for adjunct faculty, focusing on competency-based andragogy, online teaching strategies, and technology integration.
  • Onboarding and Adoption: Establish and operationalize a consistent onboarding process and experience for all adjunct faculty. Including understanding of Calbright students, programs, teaching expectations, and adoption of online learning tools.
  • Faculty Support and Engagement: Establish a supportive community for adjunct faculty, promoting engagement, collaboration, and continuous learning. Act as a primary liaison between adjunct faculty and academic departments.
  • Quality Assurance and Feedback: Ensure quality and consistency of adjunct faculty teaching to meet or exceed Calbright instructional standards. Develop feedback loops to foster and ensure high-quality instruction.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Utilize data to inform professional development and assess the effectiveness of instructional practices and professional development activities.
  • Operationalize and Manage: Provide support for operational management requirements such as adjunct faculty schedules, time reporting, and contract initiation.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with department chairs and academic leaders to align innovation in teaching and learning strategies with program and industry standards and needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


 

  • Expertise in Competency-Based Education: Deep understanding of competency-based education principles and practices, especially in an online environment.
  • Leadership and Strategic Thinking: Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and implement strategic plans that support institutional goals and faculty development.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Instructional Design and Technology: Knowledge of instructional design principles and educational technology tools that support online learning.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to use data to inform decisions and solve complex problems related to instruction, adjunct faculty development and online learning.
  • Change Management: Skills in managing change and leading adjunct faculty through transitions in andragogy and technology.
  • Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff, and faculty.

 

Minimum Qualifications


 

  • Master's degree in Education, Adult Learning, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience online teaching in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing professional development programs for faculty.

 

Desired Qualifications


 

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in competency-based education online programs.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an adjunct instructor with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities teaching online.
  • Proven leadership experience in an academic setting.

 

Working Conditions and Travel


 

  • Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college, and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

  • Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
