Director, Higher Education Engagement
California College Guidance Initiative
Remote within California with occasional travel up to 15% — Full-Time — All Candidates Must Currently Live Full Time in California
 
Overview of Role
The
California College Guidance Initiative (CCGI)
is looking for an innovative and experienced higher education leader to inspire a new body of work at CCGI. They will be charged with engaging and coaching CCC, CSU and UC campuses in the use of data provided by CCGI to advance equity and efficiency in business processes that inform decisions about outreach and recruitment, admissions, first year academic placement, advising, financial aid and supportive services.
 
CCGI streamlines the college planning and application process for California students and helps colleges access the information they need to inform key decisions to support student success. In addition to directly serving a region in the state, the Director, Higher Education Engagement will develop and drive the strategic direction for higher education engagement, with potential to hire an additional team member in the coming years.
 
The ideal candidate is collaborative and data-driven, kind and with a knack for problem-solving, and experiential knowledge of best practices in higher education outreach and recruitment, admissions, first year academic placement, advising, financial aid and/or supportive services with grounded expertise in one or more of these critical areas.
 
They should have an innate commitment to educational equity and have the ability to motivate our higher education partners to implement new, bold initiatives.
 
We work to solve large scale, system-level problems. You must be comfortable working with unknowns and ambiguous solutions, as well as passionate about promoting public education and advancing educational equity. This role reports to the Chief Impact Officer.
 
What Will You Be Doing?
  • Drive the day-to-day operations and strategic direction for the newly-forming higher education engagement team in alignment with organizational and team priorities. The director is the first team member to be hired with one additional planned staff person.
  • Implement strategy for engaging, training and monitoring progress of public post secondary colleges and universities in the use of data provided by CCGI to achieve equity and efficiency goals, as well as expand the scope and scale of CCGI Data usage, including transcript provision.
  • Increase the usage of data provided by CCGI across public post-secondary institutions by developing and articulating the value proposition to key stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with local campuses to facilitate awareness of the data provided and the potential uses/efficiencies.
  • Work collaboratively with CCGI communications and the Chief Impact Officer to develop a communications strategy and series of marketing materials focused on each system of higher education.
  • Deliver exceptional presentations at meetings and conferences.
  • Develop and deliver training designed for each relevant business unit, beginning with outreach and recruitment, admissions and placement, broadening out in future years to financial aid, supportive services and career/academic advising.
  • Provide business process consultation and coaching on integration of CCGI provided data to relevant individuals and divisions from public colleges leveraging individual, cohort and peer coaching as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with technical staff at the campus level as well as relevant technological vendors to ensure that data from CaliforniaColleges.ed is accessible to support critical business processes related to admissions, placement, guidance, financial aid and supportive services.
  • Work collaboratively with CCGI’s Strategic Impact Team to monitor progress in college use of CCGI provided data, collecting and leveraging both quantitative and qualitative data to advance diffusion of innovation to the field.
  • Ensure a close back loop to revise and improve data and transcript provision.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of CaliforniaColleges.edu.
  • Model CCGI’s organizational values and team characteristics both in action and in how decisions are made.
 
What Technical Skills Do You Need?
  • General knowledge of recruitment, admission, placement, advising, financial aid, and support service delivery to support integration of underrepresented student populations into higher education campuses, with in-depth knowledge present in one or more areas.
  • Ability to design and implement improved business processes.
  • Detailed understanding of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and Student Information Systems (SIS) in broad use among institutions of higher education.
  • Bachelor’s degree required and 5+ years of experience working in enrollment management or related offices within higher education, including supervisory experience.
  • A preference for candidates with the following experience:
    • Admission, outreach, and/and registrar’s office experience.
    • California public higher education experience.
    • Existing strong relationships with public higher education institutions and other stakeholders within California.

The California College Guidance Initiative (CCGI) works to ensure that all 6th-12th grade students in California have access to a systematic baseline of guidance and support as they plan, prepare, and pay for postsecondary education and training.
 
This baseline is provided by CaliforniaColleges.edu, which provides California students and educators with a wide range of college and career planning information and tools. The site also houses, audits, and transmits student data to help ensure more accurate and efficient decisions regarding admissions, financial aid, and course placement. CCGI provides technical assistance, support, and training to K-12 school districts in order to support students, counselors, and parents with the systematic use of CaliforniaColleges.edu, including its transcript-informed tools.
 
CCGI serves 59.6% of California students, and we are slated to scale statewide in the coming years through the California Cradle-to-Career Data System.
 
CCGI is a positive, diverse, and supportive culture. At our core, we prioritize the needs of students above all else. Everyone at CCGI works remotely from home offices. We are all located in various parts of California and make use of tools, such as ZOOM, Slack, and Salesforce, to communicate and document our work. While some people regularly travel locally and/or statewide for required business meetings, we only occasionally conduct internal meetings in person.

CCGI is housed at the Foundation for California Community Colleges but is an autonomous initiative with its own mission, goals, and executive leadership team.
 
The salary range for this position is: $110,000 -$175,000.

Budgeted Annual Salary Pay Range:
$110,000.00 - $125,000.00
 
Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.
