Job Description

Depending on the education, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (4 or 5), or as a Clinical Nurse Educator 4

DESCRIPTION

As an organization or systemwide recognized expert in one or more specialty areas, applies comprehensive knowledge of professional concepts and industry practices to lead projects of large size and scope that have critical impact. Collaborates with nursing management in developing new strategies, policies, and programs and implementing them within nursing clinical practice areas.

Serves as a medical center wide or systemwide clinical practice expert on current best practices in management of the cardiovascular patient, including critical care, interventional procedures, progressive care, assist devices, and transplant.

Serves as an expert resource across multiple nursing units, to assist multidisciplinary teams with the most complex and difficult cases. Collaborates on programs, processes, and education resources for all levels of patient acuity and complexity. Leads interdisciplinary teams in developing and implementing new evidence-based procedures, protocols, guidelines, policies, and innovative care.

May convene or lead interdisciplinary task forces to address issues related to nursing practices, especially as it pertains to the care of the cardiovascular patient. Advises nursing leadership and providers on topics related to quality outcomes, evidence-based practice, and efficiency of clinical care. Leads, trains, and mentors nursing staff in one or more specialty areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required for the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) role.

  • A Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) is required for the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) license issued by the state of California or licensure / certification in another advanced nurse practice discipline. Required to be hired in CNS role

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Seven (7+) or more years of recent and relevant clinical experience.

  • Expert knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • Expert critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly-complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution.

  • Expert skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey highly complex and / or sensitive information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Expert knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas, and often broad knowledge of multiple specialties. Includes diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice, patient / family educational consulting, and resources.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with management and staff across departments.

  • Provides counsel and guidance on highly-complex issues of functionality, clinical quality, efficiency, and program development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five (5+) or more years of recent and relevant educator experience
  • Specialty certification in related nursing field.
  • Evidence of training in health equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience working with external groups to address health disparities and promote equitable access to healthcare services.
  • Experience in academic medical center.
  • Experience with professional presentations and publication.

  • Selected candidate may be hired to the CNS or CNE role depending on experience and credentials.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $145,200 - $289,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $69.54 - $138.41

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
