The Office of International Services at NC State facilitates the University’s global mission in education, research, and community engagement by providing effective educational programs, advising, immigration processing, research, and employment support, cross-cultural experiences, and community extension activities. Our programs and services enable the international student and scholar community, faculty and students, and the broader community around us to achieve inter-cultural success and excellence on and off campus.

Essential Job Duties

This position is an entry-level international student and scholar advising position. The primary focus of the position is processing F-1 and J-1 immigration requests as assigned.

International Student and/or Scholar Services: (90%)
  • Carry out delegated international student and scholar processes under the supervision and direction of senior OIS staff and OIS leadership
  • Process requests submitted by students and scholars or departments as assigned. Follow procedure manual and utilize other regulatory information to accurately update SEVIS and issue I-20 and DS-2019 documents
  • Maintain accurate records and files on international students and scholars (stay current with file updates in database)
  • Learn and stay abreast of regulations impacting international students and scholars. Participate in twice weekly policies and procedures meetings. Shadow advising appointments and drop-in advising
  • Assist with maintenance of OIS front desk tasks- such as answering phones and OIS inbox as needed

Other Responsibilities

Other responsibilities: (10%)
  • Assist with major recurring and special programs throughout the year such as new student orientation, welcome parties, workshops (e.g., tax, OPT or CPT), receptions, etc.
  • Actively participate in OIS staff meetings, policy discussions and case review sessions, workshops, trainings, and other professional functions or university committees
  • Participate in professional development and training activities through NAFSA, NCAIE, and other activities organizations, as well as continuous technical training
  • Assist with other projects as needed and/or assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to provide clear, correct, and respectful communications in a timely manner
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and able to multi-task with accuracy and efficiency in a busy, time-sensitive environment with multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Must be able to work independently and on a team with others.
  • Experience with Google Apps or Microsoft Office suite
  • Per federal requirements, US citizenship or Permanent Residence is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in International Studies, Higher Education and Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Foreign Language, Communications or related field.
  • Experience with data entry;
  • Prior experience working in a higher education setting;
  • Prior experience living or studying abroad.
