Job Summary

The Facilities and Operations Division at the University of Michigan is seeking an experienced project director to work with the full University team, consultants and governmental agencies to lead and manage the Automated Transit System (ATS) procurement, development, and construction program which includes a developer consortium (Project Developer) responsible for both Fixed Facilities and Operating System, as well as to support post-construction operations transitions.  

The University of Michigan is planning to construct an Automated Transit System (ATS) to connect its Ann Arbor campuses. This mobility technology is often referred to as Automated People Mover or APM. The system is planned to be 3.5 miles long with six stations and a maintenance facility. The successful candidate will report to the Associate Vice President of Facilities & Operations.  It is expected that the ATS system will be designed, built, operated and maintained by the Project Developer contracted by the University through a Design/Build/Operate/Maintain (DBOM) contract. In collaboration with other members of the team, the Project Director will manage the ATS procurement process and oversee the Project Developer for the entire scope of the project, including during the pre-development phase (project agreement development, design review, risk analysis) and the construction and activation processes. The Project Director will receive support from and provide updates to an advisory team.

Work Locations

The work for this position is expected to be mostly onsite at the Ann Arbor campus; however, there may be a possibility for limited remote work with management approval.
