The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 57 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. Under general supervision of the Director for Training, Education and Research Collaborations at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center (MCC), the Cancer Training and Education Program Manager is responsible for the administrative management, planning, coordination and operations of multiple cancer research training and education programs within MCC. These include our NCI Cancer Center Support Grant-funded Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) and NCI-funded T32 programs. Act as a key liaison between the Cancer Center's Research Administration office and all entities within and outside UCSD, including other UC academic institutions and outside collaborators. Provide high-level professional project management, coordination and administrative support for organizational management and strategic planning to senior leaders in the Cancer Center requiring tact, diplomacy, and discretion on a wide variety of complex and sensitive issues. Serve as main point of contact for cancer-related career enhancement activities. Ensure appropriate interpretation of applicable guidelines related to training and education activities. Prepare research documents and grant applications following regulations and guidelines. Review procedures and data for use in grants, manuscripts, and presentations; identify publications, track references, and write sections of required research documents such as grant proposals and progress reports. Serve as lead for the programs supported and provide advanced service for scheduling, coordination, and operational needs including meetings, seminars, conferences, Continuing Medical Education (CME) symposia, social events, etc. related to training and educational activities in the Cancer Center. Track programmatic finances and work with fund manager to ensure accurate pay for trainees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry. Experience with or understanding of biomedical postdoctoral training.

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program. Proven skills to evaluate programs, assess outcomes and realize programmatic objectives. Demonstrated experience in the areas of educational programs and courses, and fellow advising.

  • Demonstrated experience and documented excellence in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening and critical thinking. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work with others in a number of areas related to academic program administration.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem-solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues. Skill in applying organizational development, team building, problem-solving, and conflict resolution techniques in group situations. Ability to work independently, but also function effectively as part of a team.

  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines. Basic accounting and fiscal analysis skills, and grant proposal development. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience. Demonstrated ability to coordinate professional development and ethics training.

  • Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems. Strong skills, knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a variety of web-related programs, browsers, and HTML editors.

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices regarding postdoctoral affairs, confidentiality of fellow's files, and campus information systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's or PhD degree in health sciences or healthcare.

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of directly relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Theoretical and operational knowledge of principles of higher education program administration, leadership, post-graduate training and development.

  • Familiarity with education and training programs, and administration of NIH postgraduate training grant programs.

  • Familiarity with literature on best practices for teaching and learning including pedagogy training. Confident in the use of current and new technologies that support community building, communication, and instruction.

  • Demonstrated strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion. Experience mentoring individuals, including those from underrepresented backgrounds.

  • Experience as responsible member of small employee group or research team, with record of success assuming responsibilities for group activities.

  • Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal and communication skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility in dealing with all levels of faculty, student academics, staff and management, guests, vendors and the general public. Ability to use diplomacy, tact and discretion in all interactions.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate academic programs and implementation.

  • Significant university level instructional and/or research experience in STEM disciplines.

  • Familiarity with UCSD or other UC Campuses university environment and structures.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
