ABOUT THE COLLEGE 
Palo Verde College is a publicly supported 2-year college located in the beautiful Southeastern California desert.  Yearly enrollment is approximately 7,000 students (full and part-time).

LOCATION
Palo Verde College is located in the City of Blythe at one of the busiest entrance points to California.  The college is located in a desert oasis adjacent to the beautiful Colorado River and the Palo Verde Valley.  Blythe, and the fertile Palo Verde Valley, is primarily a farming and ranching area.   Boating, fishing and hunting attract many tourists.  The Palo Verde Valley is centrally located between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border.  The valley’s great climate, with more than 350 days of sunshine and mild winters, attracts thousands of winter visitors every year.

NATURE OF THE POSITION
Under the general direction of the Dean of Student Services, or designee, the Librarian will assist in the planning, organization, management, of various library services and programs, supports student success through supporting Palo Verde College’s Library services, fostering academic achievement, and collaborating with faculty and staff to integrate library resources into curriculum. The Librarian will collaborate with faculty and staff to create innovative resources and services that meet the diverse needs of our student population, ensuring that all students have equitable access to information and support.

Examples of Duties

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides reference services and assists students in locating appropriate materials.
2. Develops and implements library services ensuring access to educational resources and support for all students.
3. Catalogs library acquisitions and maintains collection.
4. Facilitates remote access to library materials and services, including online databases and digital collections
5. Provides leadership in building and maintaining a strong print and non-print collection.
6. Maintains a current knowledge of trends, technologies, and techniques in information processing and related computer appliances.
7. Assists students and faculty in navigating research resources, including databases, digital archives, and academic journals
8. Curates and manages library collections to ensure they are reflective of the diverse needs and interests of the college community.
9. Works cooperatively with other faculty in developing bibliographic instruction and information competency programs across the curriculum.
10. Participates in a variety of activities to promote the use of the library by faculty, students and staff.
11. Promotes library resources that address cultural competency and DEIA topics, encouraging faculty to incorporate these materials into their curriculum and discussions
12. Curates and develops digital resources, including online tutorials, webinars, and instructional materials to promote information literacy
13. Develops and monitors library budget expenditures.
14. Leads initiatives to modernize library services, including the integration of new technologies and digital resources; makes recommendations on new technology applications for the library.
15. Develops and maintains user-friendly research guides and resources
16. Develops and implements programs and services that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the library
17. Stays current with developments in library science, information technology, and educational practices through continuous professional development and active participation in professional organizations.
18. Performs other duties associated with full-time employment.

Educational/Experience Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A master’s in library science or library and information science; OR the equivalent.
2. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
3. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, ethnic, racial, age, national origin, religious, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience as a full-time librarian in a community college.
1. Demonstrated success in helping students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, nontraditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with learning disabilities. Ability to provide leadership in furthering new technologies appropriate to libraries.
2. Ability to work cooperatively with our faculty, while encouraging their alliance to the library order to enhance instruction.
3. Ability to provide a strong leadership for the library.
4. Experience and working knowledge of library automation; awareness of new technologies, techniques and networking of resources.
5. Experience in the overall supervision of library services and operations, including the implementation of policies and procedures.
6. Ability to evaluate and analyze present library operations and determine future direction.
7. Experience in developing and monitoring a library budget.
8. Demonstration of excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
9. Professional experience in one or more of the following library services: cataloging and classification; reference service; acquisition of print and non-print material; circulation; collection development; information competency instruction.
10. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative, productive and effective working relationship within a shared governance system.
11. Possession of a graduate degree in a second subject.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. The physical demands and work environment are typical of an instructional job in a classroom and office environment.

CLASSIFICATION & SALARY
1. Full-time, tenure track academic position (11 Month/186-day academic year). May include evening assignment.
2. Placement on the academic salary schedule will be determined by education and experience.
