General Description
SUNY Niagara is seeking a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track Criminal Justice Instructor in the Arts, Humanities and, Social Sciences Division. The instructor will also be responsible for student advisement, assessment of learning objectives, and participation in divisional and college activities. In addition, the instructor will be responsible for attending meetings and participating in committees on campus. Assignments may be during day, evening, or weekend hours. Courses to be taught may include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law and Procedures, Introduction to Corrections, Introduction to Policing, Introduction to Principles of Security, Criminology, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency, Criminal Investigations, Research Methods, Issues in Criminal Justice, and Field Studies in Criminal Justice.
These classes are typically three lecture hours per week during days and/or evenings. The load is 15 lecture credits per semester. Classes can be face-to-face, face-to-face enhanced with a Zoom option, asynchronous online, blended synchronous online on Zoom, hyflex (face-to-face, synchronous Zoom, and asynchronous online), and hybrid (in-person and online).
Classes are held on the SUNY Niagara’s main campus in Sanborn, NY, as well as the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute in Niagara Falls, NY. Applicants must be able to attend in-person meetings, professional development, and other obligations on the Sanborn campus even if teaching online or at NFCI.

Typical Work Activities
A. Provide instruction with the focus on teaching and learning to help ensure students in each class successfully meet all course outcomes and classroom objectives.
1. Ensure appropriate course-level rigor in class instruction and assessment methodologies. Development, integration, and delivery of course content planning documents including but not limited to syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments.
2. Establish and maintain a classroom climate consistent with the NCCC mission and vision.
B. Participate in professional development activities.
1. Maintain a current knowledge of teaching discipline/field of study as evidenced by active participation in professional organizations, maintenance of current scholarly collection of resources and engagement in active, on-going dialogue with peer faculty.
2. Participate in faculty development opportunities, including program-specific and campus-wide faculty meetings.
C. Fulfill administrative duties.
1. Meet requirements for creation, distribution, and retention and/or submission of beginning- and end-of-term paperwork.
2. Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process by providing feedback on curriculum to Program Coordinator and/or the Division Chair.
3. Attend required College functions including program meetings, graduation and special activities.
4. Participate in campus-wide initiatives in support of recruitment, retention, and graduation goal attainment.
5. Other duties assigned by the VP of Academic Affairs.

Essential Functions
Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, co-workers, supervisors, and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare, and present information. Must able to operate computers. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position and must adjust any teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.

Required Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field (The JD will not be considered as a related field).
  • Professional work experience in the field;
  • 2 years prior college teaching experience;
  • Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.

Desirable Qualifications
  • ABD or Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or related field; (The JD will not be considered as a related field)
  • Experience with classroom technologies;
  • Prior community college teaching experience; preferably full time
  • Experience with a learning management system such as Brightspace;
  • Online teaching experience and formal training
  • Experience in recruitment activities
  • Experience with curricular development at the program and course levels
  • Evidence of successful teaching of non-traditional students.
