Job Title: Physics/Engineering Instructor 9-Month FSLA: Exempt
Reports to: Department Chair of Math, Science & Engineering Date: May 28, 2024
The incumbent in this position is expected to support the College in achieving its missions and goals. Student
focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expected from all employees.

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under limited supervision, performs administrative, record keeping, educational, and technical work in
instructing students in the classroom setting. Work involves preparing and delivering lectures in the
appropriate department; preparing, administering, and grading periodic tests for all courses; and
maintaining records of student attendance as required by the Community College System. Maintain
documents as needed for enrollment of students. Prepare and submit necessary documentation for
continued accreditation. Offer assistance to students outside of class time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Teach Physics and Engineering courses and their associated labs; prepare, administer and grade
periodic tests, assignments and/or program assessment data; maintain records of student attendance as
required by BCC. Serve as an academic advisor to students and serve on college committees.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master's degree in Physics, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Engineering from aregionally accredited post-secondary institution or, a Master's degree in Engineering, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Physics from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
  • Demonstrate excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with students

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ph.D. in Physics and/or Engineering from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
  • Teaching experience at the Community College level
  • Experience with classroom technology
  • Experience with outcome and program assessment
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Office 365, Moodie and Zoom
  • Experience teaching online

OTHER RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and support of college policies and procedures
  • Must have the ability and vocabulary required to communicate with all levels of staff, faculty,students, and the public in the performance of the job

This is a 9-month position. Salary range is based on Brunswick Community College scale and determined by the candidate's education and experience related to higher education. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with evenings and weekends as needed. Full-time instructor with seated classes on campus.
