Organizational Leadership Adjunct Instructor

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Application Pool Notice 

Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester.  Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The adjunct faculty works closely with the BASORGL director to deliver courses in the Organizational Leadership program.  Courses will be delivered in hybrid format with competency-based education practices using departmental approved course templates.  Adjunct faculty will meet with director and academic coach on a weekly basis to provide student updates and recommendations for coaching.   
 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities 

Adheres to tenants of competency-based education, including:              
  • Grades student tasks within 48-72 hours, including weekends. 
  • Provides feedback within 48-72 hours of task submissions and provides resources to address gaps in student learning.
  • Develops individual learning plan for each student that is updated on a weekly basis.
  • Meets with academic coach/program director on a weekly basis to update student progress.
  • Proactively monitors student academic progress and intervenes with “at-risk” students.
  • Meet in zoom for synchronous instruction and other meetings with students as needed.
  • Is available to students in the evenings and weekends as needed.
Other Duties
  • Participates in the IE assessment process.
  • Ability to teach online, completing all required trainings and satisfying all Quality Matters standards. 
  • Prepare and, on the first day of class, distribute departmental syllabus which inform students about course requirements, grading requirements, testing assignments, absence policy, and other pertinent information for each course assigned.
  • Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
  • Encourage the use of support services by students.          Collaborate with support services staff to ensure that appropriate information is being shared and discussed.
  • Follow procedures related to the Office of the Registrar and Admissions Office, including grade reports and deadlines, attendance record reports, withdrawal deadlines, mid-semester progress reports, and the like.
  • Distribute student evaluation forms and/or surveys on a timely basis.
 

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • An earned Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level and online teaching experience; Industry experience and/or research in the area of leadership.   

Preferred:

  • An earned doctorate in Organizational Leadership, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.  
  • Teaching experience at a college or university
  • Online teaching experience
  • Experience teaching in competency based education modalities
  • Experience teaching Organizational Leadership or related courses

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of online technology such as Learning management systems, Zoom, etc.
  • Extremely proficient in excel and in analyzing data.
  • Time and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team.

Physical Requirements 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Special Conditions

Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed. May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
