Summary of Purpose

 

Performs clerical and technical duties that require a practical knowledge of library operations in order to support the libraries. This position is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.

 

Typical Duties

 

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:


 
  • Provides circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserve desk services to on-campus and remote users; assists students and faculty in locating library materials and provides assistance on use of systems and equipment, addressing patron concerns and complaints; provides appropriate referrals and collects fines, as needed.
  • Assists with input and updating of online circulation, reserve, and interlibrary loan records following standard format.
  • Verifies interlibrary loan requests and locates local holding libraries; maintains accurate interlibrary loan reports, files, and statistics.
  • Assists with maintenance of loose-leaf services; collects, prepares, and processes library materials for the bindery; reviews damaged library materials, handling basic repairs.
  • Assists with periodical maintenance.
  • Prepares and maintains library materials for correct shelving order and circulation, resolving shelving conflicts and errors; assists with inventory projects.
  • Provides clerical support for Library as needed including, but not limited to, ordering supplies and library materials, reporting and tracking equipment problems, processing mail, and scheduling and billing for library services.
  • Operates office equipment (e.g., photocopier, calculator, telephone, computer, and any other equipment utilized by the College); cleans, maintains, and arranges for service of equipment when necessary.
  • Assists in training and directing college student personnel with appropriate approval.
  • Attends meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. as required for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform assigned functions.
  • Assists library faculty, as needed, in answering library user questions, providing appropriate referrals, and assumes responsibility for operation of the public rooms.
  • Assists with tracking and resolution of problems/issues related to automated library systems and library services platform.
  • Performs related tasks, as assigned.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

 

EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent.

-AND-

Successful completion of a minimum of six (6) college credits in Library Science.

-AND-

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in a library setting with demonstrated customer service experience.
