The Dean of Continuing Education is a full-time position located primarily in Union County. Under the direction of the Vice President of Business and Workforce Solutions, the Dean of Continuing Education is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction in the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education programs aligned with the college’s strategic goals and industry needs. The Dean will foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the Continuing Education division, while managing budgetary resources effectively, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and fostering partnerships with internal stakeholders to facilitate seamless pathways for students.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Lead and promote the development of innovative continuing education programs responsive to workforce demands and community needs, leveraging industry knowledge and labor market trends.
  • Collaborate with faculty, industry partners, and community stakeholders to identify emerging trends and opportunities for program expansion, demonstrating strong networking and partnership-building skills.
  • Ensure the quality and relevance of existing programs through regular assessment and evaluation, employing problem-solving skills to address challenges and optimize program outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Business and Workforce Solutions to develop strategic plans and goals for the Continuing Education division, integrating a student-centered approach and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Implement strategies to increase enrollment, retention, and completion rates within continuing education programs, employing data analysis and student success initiatives.
  • Partner with Academic Affairs and peer Deans to ensure pathways from continuing education to credit-bearing/curriculum programs, fostering collaboration and seamless transitions for students.
  • Monitor industry trends and labor market demands to adapt programs accordingly and maintain competitiveness, demonstrating a keen understanding of industry knowledge and workforce needs.
  • Develop and manage the division’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic priorities, demonstrating strong financial management skills.
  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships to support program growth and sustainability, leveraging networking skills and community engagement.
  • Allocate resources effectively to support program development, faculty/staff professional development, and student services, prioritizing student success and program excellence.
  • Provide leadership to faculty and staff within the Continuing Education division, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence, demonstrating strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate faculty and staff to maintain a high-performing team, prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in recruitment and professional development efforts.
  • Promote a student-centered approach to service delivery, emphasizing responsiveness, accessibility, and inclusivity, and creating an inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for program alignment, articulation agreements, and credit transfer options, promoting student success and educational attainment.
  • Actively engage in college-wide initiatives and committees to promote collaboration, integration, and alignment of continuing education with credit-bearing programs and academic pathways.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and college policies and procedures, employing a comprehensive understanding of compliance and accreditation processes.
  • Oversee the development and submission of required reports, assessments, and documentation for accreditation purposes, demonstrating strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Stay abreast of changes in accreditation standards and best practices in continuing education, integrating new knowledge into program development and compliance efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in continuing education, workforce development, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success in program development, strategic planning, and budget management, with strong financial management skills.
  • Strong understanding of industry trends, workforce needs, and adult learning principles, with excellent networking and partnership-building skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills, with a commitment to developing inclusive education and workforce development programs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a community college or similar educational setting.
