General Function

  • Grant Funded Position through December 31, 2026

Performs a variety of administrative and counseling duties focused on increasing engagement, completion, and employment of underrepresented populations especially Black and Hispanic/Latino students. Assists and empowers students to make informed career decisions, connect to college support services, and manage the job search process.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

1. Provides structured career programming designed to increase employment and workforce success in a case management approach for underrepresented students as part of the Bridge to Careers program.

2. Promotes partnerships and improves services for underrepresented students seeking to identify majors and explore career options.

3. Counsels students directly related to the career development process, including administering and interpreting career assessment instruments.

4. Coaches students on resume writing, interviewing, and other job search strategies.

5. Designs and implements outreach programs to promote and encourage underrepresented students to use Career Services and other student engagement programs.

6. Provides outreach and ongoing communication strategies to make potential and current Bridge to Career students aware of focused career pathway opportunities.

7. Advises and implements intentional support services to ensure students’ academic success in college.

8. Works collaboratively with faculty members and employers to promote and provide effective support toward career goals.

9. Assists in the orientation process for Bridge to Career students with emphasis on career information and selection.

10. Assists students with acquisition of soft skills that are in-demand in the workplace.

11. Performs other duties that relate to the grant as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

  • Grant Funded Position through December 31, 2026

Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Counseling, Student Development or a related field and one year experience in career counseling (direct experience with underrepresented populations especially Black and/or Hispanic/Latino student populations preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of career counseling theory, practice, trends, and strategies.

Ability to demonstrate cultural competence in work with a diverse student population

Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, college departments, and employers

Knowledge of career assessments, such as the MBTI and the Strong Interest Inventory, and their interpretation

Strong Microsoft Office skills

Strong knowledge job search processes and methods

Excellent presentation skills

Flexibility and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Marketing skills

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Experience in event and program planning
