Position Description

The Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy & Governance, at the University of Washington, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 2025. Tenure-track faculty have an annual service period of nine months (Sept 16 - June 15). The successful candidate will be expected to develop their intellectual leadership in public budgeting, public finance, and financial management. The successful candidate will conduct research in one of the following areas: participatory budgeting, equity in budgeting, intergovernmental fiscal relations, revenue administration, or the design of tax regimes. All University of Washington tenure-track faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The Evans School of Public Policy & Governance is internationally recognized as one of the best public policy and administration programs. Among other areas, our esteemed interdisciplinary faculty has depth of expertise in public and non-profit management, leadership and collaborative governance, contracting, and finance. The Evans School was home to the journal Public Budgeting and Finance from 2017-2023. The Evans School has strong connections with local, state, and federal public agencies, nonprofit organizations, a large alumni network, and the professional associations of public administration and public policy.

Our mission focuses upon educating leaders, generating knowledge, and hosting communities to co-create solutions to pressing societal problems. We educate diverse students in undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and professional certificate programs. As a result, our school values diversity, rigor, and innovative approaches to public policy and administration, including work that addresses issues of marginalization, discrimination, and structured opportunities created by institutions and policy. Successful candidates will be expected to support the school’s purpose to inspire public service and democratize public policy.

The base salary range for this position will be $6,773 - $12,445.00 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

MINIMUM: Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Policy, or a related field or foreign equivalent required (held or expected by June 2025). Candidates who fail to satisfy minimum qualifications when hired cannot be considered for this position.
