Job Description Summary
The Division of Continuing Education is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support our Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor. This role is essential in helping adult learners achieve their educational goals, improve their literacy and numeracy skills, and prepare for further education or employment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to helping adult learners succeed.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working with adult learners or in an educational setting is a plus.

 

Essential Duties
Under direction of the Director of College & Career Readiness, the Continuing Education Instructor works cooperatively with BCCC staff to perform the following:
  • Assist the ABE Instructor in planning and delivering instructional activities.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to students in areas such as reading, writing, math, and English language skills.
  • Support students with diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
  • Help prepare instructional materials and resources.
  • Monitor and record student progress and provide feedback to the instructor.
  • Assist with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Encourage and motivate students to actively participate in their learning.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as taking attendance, grading assignments, and maintaining student records.
  • Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
  • Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
  • Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
  • Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
  • Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
  • Comply with the College’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 2:30 - 4:30 pm

Based on the College’s salary plan and commensurate with education and relevant work experience
