Location: Remote, various locations throughout California

Salary Range: The beginning salary range for this position is Range M-19, (Steps 1-3) $144,477.95 - $159,314.04..

Position Overview

The Associate Dean of Learning Experience, in collaboration with the Dean of Learning Innovation, is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and relentless improvement of Calbright’s competency-based education direct assessment learning experience. The Associate Dean will lead initiatives that enhance curriculum design, instructional technology, and faculty development to support excellence in online design and student engagement. This position reports directly to the Dean of Learning Innovation and works closely with faculty, department chairs, curriculum and assessment, faculty, and instructional design faculty teams to ensure that our educational offerings meet the highest standards of quality and innovation.

 


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed within the scope of work.


 

  • Strategic Leadership: In collaboration with the Dean of Learning Innovation, provide leadership in the planning and implementation of cutting-edge learning experiences, aligning with the institution's strategic goals.
  • Curriculum Development: Oversee the design and continuous improvement of curricula across disciplines, ensuring they meet industry standards, accreditation requirements, and the needs of diverse student populations.
  • Instructional Design and Technology: Lead initiatives to adopt and integrate the latest instructional technologies and pedagogical approaches to enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
  • Faculty Development: Develop and oversee comprehensive professional development programs for faculty in areas of pedagogical innovation, technology integration, and competency-based education.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous quality assurance processes to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of learning experiences, including course design, delivery, and assessment methods.
  • Collaboration and Advocacy: Foster collaboration across departments and advocate for resources and support to enhance the learning experience. Serve as a liaison between academic and administrative units to support educational initiatives.
  • Research and Innovation: Promote a culture of research and innovation in teaching and learning, encouraging faculty to engage in scholarship that advances educational practices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in Educational Theory and Practice: Deep understanding of contemporary educational theories, instructional design principles, and best practices in higher education.
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning: Strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to inspire and lead faculty and staff towards a shared vision.
  • Innovation in Teaching and Learning: A track record of innovation in enhancing teaching and learning, including the use of technology to improve educational outcomes.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex issues, make data-informed decisions, and solve problems creatively.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Capacity to adapt to changing educational landscapes and embrace new pedagogical approaches and technologies.
  • Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff and faculty.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters in Education Technology, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, with a focus on curriculum development, instructional design, or academic technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading faculty development initiatives and implementing innovative teaching and learning strategies.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, with a focus on curriculum development, instructional design, or academic technology.
  • Experience in competency-based and online education program development.
  • Experience with accreditation processes and academic program evaluation.

 

Working Conditions and Travel

  • Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college, and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

  • Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
