Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties

Facilitates the operations of the Library Public Services desk. Provides customer service and technical support, assists in holds preparation, and collaborates with staff in organizing and directing the activities of student employees. Oversees library operations during some evening and weekend hours.

Essential Duties:
1. Assists in the development, training, and coordination of Federal Work Study student employees.
2. Performs all duties necessary to open, close, and secure the library.
3. Provides extensive coverage of the Public Services desk.
4. Produces and distributes holds and interlibrary loans.
5. Performs daily check-in, processing, and filing of the circulating and course reserve collections.
6. Assists in maintaining and editing training materials for staff and students.
7. Assists library staff with special projects.
8. Maintains strict confidentiality of patron records and other personal information related to areas of responsibility.

Additional Duties:
1. May attend professional meetings, workshops or classes in areas of responsibility.
2. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Experience/Training:


  • Minimum (1) year of library public service experience
  • Familiarity with computers and basic office equipment hardware and software.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the library
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with integrated library software such as ExLibris Alma/Primo, Horizon, SirsiDynix, Millennium, OCLC, Ariel, or CLIO.

 

Working Conditions and Important Information

 

Working Conditions:
This is a physically challenging position. Work requires constant standing, sitting, walking, lifting up to 40 pounds, reaching over shoulders, bending and stooping, pushing and pulling of heavily loaded book trucks up to 50 pounds, repetitive hand and wrist motions. Eyestrain may occur during frequent use of computer monitor. Occasional exposure to difficult or potentially dangerous situations and/or customers especially when working as the in-charge person on evenings and weekends.

Sick Leave
Part-time hourly employees will accrue one (1) hour of sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked.
